I own a Gateway Laptop! Please comfort near my touch wad mouse reins!!?

The problem is since I've have the machine, the helm (area of touch pad next to arrows pointing up and down) has not worked on any magazine on Internet of Instant Messenger. Actually, it only works while I'm contained by my Word Application. I've done it all, checked the settings within my internet and the control panel settings repeatedly. Everything is as should be, but no response, just the arrow god pops up that indicates that it should be moving. Alas, nada. Please help!!!
